Alexa Sunday School Lesson – God Is Always There (Psalm 145:18)

Title: Hey Alexa!

Big Idea: God is always there, ready to listen to us and help us.

Bible Verse: “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” Psalm 145:18

Object Needed: Smart Speaker (Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or Apple Siri)

Notes: This can be presented as an Object Lesson, Kids Sermon or a Sunday School lesson for kids. If you can plug in your Alexa (or smart speaker) for the lesson it will make it more memorable. Also, you can have some fun by asking your Alexa device some questions about the time, weather, and sunset while presenting the lesson.

Alexa Sunday School Lesson – God Is Always There

Do you have a smart speaker in your home? If you aren’t sure what a smart speaker is, maybe you recognize its name:

  • “Hey, Google, how many days until my birthday?”
  • “Hey, Alexa, do I need to wear a coat today?”
  • “Hey, Siri, what song is this?”

Sound familiar? You probably have one of these devices in your house – or know someone who does.

All around us are devices that we talk to and ask questions. We can ask what the weather is like outside, and they tell us. We can ask it to call our grandma or grandpa, and soon we are talking to them. We can even sing a song to it and it will tell us the lyrics.

Alexa and Siri are so normal now that we often forget how amazing it is that we can ask it any question and it will tell us anything we want to know!

Did you know that we have a God who is kind of like Alexa? He is always around and always ready to talk. He knows everything about us, even more than Alexa does. And we can ask Him any question we want!

In the Bible, there is a book called Psalms. The Psalms are filled with questions being asked to God – a lot like we ask Alexa and Siri. The Psalmist asks God questions like:

  • “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1)
  • “When I cry for help, will he answer?” (Psalm 6:9)
  • “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” (Psalm 56:3)
  • “When I am sad and discouraged, where can I go from your Spirit?” (Psalm 138:7)

Do you ask God questions like that too? Sometimes we don’t even know what to ask for! But the good news is that we can ask Him anything we want in prayer – and he is right there to hear us every single time. Listen to this amazing promise in the Bible:

“The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” – Psalm 145:18

Alexa and Siri might make life a little easier in some ways. But they don’t love us – and know us – like God does!

God is always there, ready to listen to us and help us. He knows the answers to all of our questions – we just need to take a moment to talk with him!

So what will you ask God today?

Discussion Questions:

  • If you could ask God any questions at all, what would it be?
  • What are some ways you can talk to God?
  • When you are scared, what kind of questions can you ask God in prayer?
